On today's podcast episode, Mitch is returning from 2 weeks in Europe and doing a brief recap of his trip. The guys get into some "household items" this episode, and they didn't really define the rules up front, so things go a little off the rails. Here's a brief rundown and some links for visual references.
Mitch's Desert Island Household Items
Outdoor Fire Pit
Does this pick make sense? To Mitch, it does, because he doesn't want to dig a hole to make a fire every day and claims to know how to start one on his own. This is the one he sent me, which is ridiculous, but I think he really means something like this.
Bidet
His reasoning for this? Saltwater hurts, and he doesn't want to use coconut husks. This obviously raised questions about how it would be hooked up on the island, but they allowed him to keep it. If you've been interested in diving into the bidet lifestyle, here is the one Mitch recommends.
Tent
The final item on Mitch's bougie glamping island is a canvas safari-style tent. Obviously, he does not currently use this as a household item, but it would definitely be nice to have on the island for shelter and protection from the sun and elements.
Alex's Desert Island Household Items
Cast Iron Pan
A well-seasoned cast-iron pan would be excellent for cooking meals over the fire, but the guys came up with many other uses for it. It could be a weapon, a hammer, and even a fire pit to rival Mitch's.
Hammock
Alex often uses a nylon packable hammock like this when camping or just hanging out at the park. He likes the idea of having a place to lounge and hang out that isn't on the ground. He is a stomach sleeper, so it might not be the best for every night, but a nice change of pace every once in a while.
Electric Toothbrush
Keeping with the practical theme, Alex chose his beloved electric toothbrush for his third item. The charge would never run out, but he'd be on his own for toothpaste. Some internet research told him that he could try crushed mint or sage leaves, wood ash, or coconut oil to help clean.
Justin's Desert Island Household Items
Tent Hammock
Justin took Alex's hammock idea one step further and listed a zip-up hammock that can be used as a shelter and keep the bugs away. He wants a full cocoon situation. Here is the one he's adding to his Christmas wishlist.
Chef's Knife
When he's ready to prepare some fish for dinner, he doesn't want to have to rip them apart with his hands. A chef's knife would come in handy for all kinds of cooking tasks, but apparently Justin also knows how to cut bamboo to make a rope. This brand is his favorite.
A JetBoil
This little propane stove is a camping accessory, but in his defense, he has used it on his little patio to make s'mores before. Justin doesn't claim to know how to start a fire, so having this easy button helps make life a little easier on the island.
Final Thoughts on Desert Island Household Items
The guys agreed that Justin won this one with his mix of function and comfort.
While we might need to lay out the rules better in the future, the unhinged episodes are a fun change of pace. Stay tuned for next week when we get back to something a bit more obviously defined.
