In the second episode, the hosts are visiting one of their favorite topics - movies. Instead of just selecting one movie, each is choosing three film directors, and anything they've directed will be available to watch on the desert island.

Here's a quick overview of the main topics covered, along with applicable links to help you dive into their selections.

Alex's Desert Island Directors:

Quentin Tarantino

While Tarantino might not be someone Alex wants to be on the island with, he is a huge fan of his movies. There's a Halloween costume featured on the Instagram account if you want proof. There are no skips in his filmography, which is good because he's only directed nine films. Kill Bill is probably his favorite Tarantino film; he even owns these relics. Other films mentioned as favorites were Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Inglorious Bastards.

The Coen Brothers

Alex was quick to point out that he's only considering films that the brothers did together. His highlights include The Big Lebowski, Burn After Reading, No Country for Old Men, and Fargo. Alex described their work as "funny and oh so great."

Production Note: Mitch shared a story about the Garfield animated movie, noting that Bill Murray signed on because he thought the Coen brothers were attached. It was actually a screenwriter sharing a name with Joel Cohen that caused the confusion.

Steven Soderbergh

While he might be best known for Magic Mike, that was not the top of Alex's favorite films. Soderbergh is more prolific than his other choices and has a deeper film catalog to draw from. Plus, the man had two Best Director Oscar nominations for different movies in the same year: Traffic & Erin Brockovich. Ocean's Eleven is another very well-known movie in the filmography.

Justin's Desert Island Directors:

Martin Scorsese

In Justin's opinion, Scorsese is the GOAT. With 7 movies hitting the list of 250 films you must see, he's one of the highest-ranking directors in history. Justin loves that he shows you the story instead of telling you. With over 6 decades of work, some favorites include The Departed, Gangs of New York Shutter Island, Taxi Driver, and Cape Fear.

Christopher Nolan

This pick was on and off the list a few times, with a lock-in just moments before recording started. He picked Nolan because his movies are all fairly intense and really make you think. Inception, for example, could lead to many discussions about how to interpret the ending. In addition to loving many of his movies, Justin hasn't seen many of his newer work so it would give him some fresh content on the island. Films discussed included Dark Knight, Oppenheimer, Interstellar, and The Prestige.

Robert Zemeckis

Purely a nostalgia pick for Justin, Zemeckis is responsible for so many of the classics from his childhood. Castaway is a bit too on the nose for the deserted island, but he'd be comfortable watching the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and Death Becomes Her. There are Christmas movies, Halloween thrillers, and some epic storytelling mixed in. Alex raised an interesting point about his use of A.I. in the recent film, Here, but none of the hosts had seen it.

Mitch's Desert Island Directors:

Steven Spielberg

Everyone nodded their heads with this pick from Mitch. If he hadn't put it on the list, I think the other guys would have. There is a long list of Spielberg movies, and there's really something for every mood. 1975-1985 was an epic decade of movie-making for him. They could do an entire episode on Spielberg's list, but the guys mentioned Jurassic Park, Minority Report, Jaws, Munich, Lincoln, and Hook. Plus, they argued a bit about which Indiana Jones movie is the best and the worst.

Denis Villeneuve

This Sci-Fi director is one of Mitch's favorites. Villeneuve is a French-Canadian who began his career in French films. Now, he's tapped to be the next James Bond director. Mitch mentioned Dune Parts 1 and 2, Sicario, Arrival, and Prisoners.

David Fincher

The final pick for the list was Fincher, who has a great list of movies, but also has some fantastic television directing and music videos. He got his start doing music videos for icons like Paula Abdul, Eddie Money, and Rick Springfield, so Mitch will have some great variety to enjoy. The films mentioned included Seven, The Game, Zodiac, Gone Girl, Fight Club, and Panic Room.
