In the third episode, the hosts share which celebrities they would bring along to their island. While they might not all be practical, some of the more unhinged options are the best ones. In addition to the hosts' selections, there were some excellent audience suggestions. Make sure to follow on Instagram so you can submit your choices for future episodes.
Here's a quick overview of the main topics covered, along with applicable links to help you dive into their selections.
Justin's Desert Island Celebrities:
Nick Offerman
He's most well-known for playing the hilarious Ron Swanson on Parks & Rec, but Nick Offerman has all kinds of incredible talents. He's a woodworking genius and has written a few wonderful books about his hobbies and his travels. Here's a link to his recent book, which is one of Justin's favorites (or find it on Amazon here). Or dive into one of his first books, which shares "One Man's Fundamentals for Delicious Living" (or find it on Amazon here). Justin appreciates Offerman's ability to build a canoe with his bare hands and knows he can definitely build a sick fire.
Kristen Kish
This Top Chef Season 10 winner was so loved by viewers that she was tapped to take over hosting the show two years ago. She's currently on the show, Traitors, and she's super chill and smart. So with her mean chef skills and her chill personality, she would be an excellent invite to the island. If you aren't familiar with her, check out the current season of The Traitors on Peacock, read her memoir, or check out her cookbook.
Wesley Schultz
As the lead singer for the Lumineers, Schultz will bring the entertainment to the island. Justin loves his solo album, Vignettes, which is packed with cover songs. After seeing him in concert this weekend and hearing him talk about the loss of his brother, there was some vulnerability and connection to his fans that felt genuine.
Mitch's Desert Island Celebrities:
Bear Grylls
This survival show host has a set of skills that would absolutely come in handy if they were stuck on a deserted island. Mitch is relying on his ability to build a shelter and find drinking water (preferably not recycled pee.) If you are interested in learning more about this survival guru, he wrote this autobiography that is oddly categorized under martial arts.
Padma Lakshmi
As another Top Chef host, Lakshmi has strong kitchen skills and knowledge. She spent time modeling and acting, and more recently, she's become a writer. She speaks five languages and has traveled all over the world filming TV specials about food and culture. She would be filled with excellent adventure stories and would hopefully balance the intensity of Grylls. If you want to check out her most recent cookbook, grab a copy - it's excellent.
Paul Rudd
This was a vibe pick. Paul Rudd just seems like a cool, chill guy. Mitch wasn't sure whether he plays the guitar, and I found an article saying he does, but he's not very good. So at least he would have time to practice and could hang out around the fire.
Alex's Desert Island Celebrities:
Charles Barkley
This legendary basketball player got a great response from everyone in the room when Alex mentioned him first. Like Paul Rudd, this pick was based purely on vibes and the fact that Alex loves basketball and would love to chat about it with Chuck. This was Alex's easiest choice and he called Barkley a "glue guy" who gets along with everyone.
Jamie Hyneman
As one half of the Mythbusters duo, Hyneman is an adventurous guy. His Wikipedia page says he is also an engineer, boat captain, dive master, linguist, and animal wrangler. That sounds like a good person to have on a deserted island with you. Alex also loves the idea of being able to go on excursions around the island with Jamie as a guide.
Martha Stewart
And because he wanted to balance the island's energy and have someone to teach him a few things, he chose Martha Stewart as his final pick. He also mentioned that she might share some good prison stories. She can help him learn to bake and cook, and use the supplies they have on the island to make it feel more like home.
Final Thoughts
Alex's island was the most popular according to the hosts, but we'd love to hear what you think. Comment below and let us know, or vote on our Instagram poll.
